A report of Partner CADIC by Cordaid .

16 December 2008
Dear Lema,

I still owe you a report of our visit to Kinshasa and off course our visit to Foundation CADIC. The last few years this project is not supported by Cordaid The Netherlands anymore. We concluded that the method used by CADIC in Kinshasa by implement projects, is for Congolese understanding very progressive. Own initiatives are supported en welcome and they believe in the power of the population. Mr. Janvier we experienced as a charisma person who can mobilize and motivate. All together we experienced our visit very positive. We hope success of projects, especially the one of women groups, will have positive and measurable results. Further more you will find our result of our visit. We are very curious if it was possible to create a network in The Netherlands as well in Kinshasa of small organisations to deploy for OS/IS, and can make each other stronger as well in The Netherlands as in Congo (Kinshasa).

Kind regards,
Josta ten Broeke

Wells for Clean Drinkwater

In African countries it is often hard to get clean drinking water. Beside that, people have to walk many kilometres to reach water. But  drinking polluted water causes much illness. When a village would have an own well with clean drinking water there is already one problem solved.

The population of Kifua in Mbanza-Ngunga, province Bas-Congo, urgently need wells, so they contacted the Foundation Talentueax, KAST. The foundation made their conclusion on the spot, it was a very bad situation concerning drinking water for the population. They even had to drink from little waters en rivers polluted drinking water. That is why Foundation KAST decided to realise 10 wells, and by financial support of NCDO we were able to built 2 wells.

At this moment KAST and partner Ceprobedi are building 2 wells. In the next two years they hope to realise eight more wells. This way they will help 12.000 peoples. The expectation on the long term is to reduce dying children and a guaranty for clean drinking water for the population of Kifua.

How to handle Food crisis

Since a few years the agriculture sector have big problems. Factories are taking over Agriculture ground and climate chance has a big influence on the production. The prices of agriculture products drastically increase because of shortage of food worldwide and the economic crisis. Increasing prices, more factories, climate chance and economic development makes it hard for little villages to survive.
Our project is located in the province Bas-Congo, a surrounding around a big city Mbanza-Ngungu. It is a quiet location and the peoples mostly live from the production of the ground.
Target

  1. First target:
Increase agriculture production for over 3.500 peoples from 10 villages (groupement) of Kifua in Banza-Ngunga district in the province Bas-Congo by:
    Buying a tractor
    Buying different kinds of seeds
    Education of agriculture methods
Make aware, particular man to participate active in agriculture work to increase their assets, and have enough to eat.
Organizing a cooperation of farmers, to be efficient in agriculture work.
  2. Second target
Make aware of women rights, by organising women meetings where women from Congo and now living in The Netherlands can be important examples.
Decrease women and children who are working in the field, and increase the numbers of children that is going to school.

Microcredit

The remittance en microcredit project is a project for ‘diaspora’ and the social weak people in Congo. With this project KAST was working together with several Congolese contacts in the whole world. Contacts are made by commercials on www.radiotvtshiondo.com. As result of these commercials social networks were founded, and aid was supplied. Up till now this network is still active.

With support of Oxfam Novib KAST founded a network with the following organisations: Foundation Bambale from Eindhoven, Foundation Hands and Hart of Christ in Central Africa from Leiden, Congolese Women-foundation from Zoetermeer and Congolese Foundation REDEEM from Den Haag. This network officially operates in The Netherlands since February 16e 2008 by organising a meeting about Congo Network The Netherlands.
With help from Oxfam Novib and Cordaid KAST participated in several training programs; “Project Cycle Management, Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation”, Managing International Partnership (MIP), MDF and a training about being most efficient by Foundation Mondiale Samenleving.
Every year KAST organise a Congolese and Angolese evening where people from Congo an Angola living in The Netherlands meet each other.
